Hi. This post is just to point out the fact that this blog gallery is where i keep some older works of mine. If you want to see newer images, please refer to http://carlosrannasketches.blogspot.com/ and have fun.

Pixel art animation poses for games

I made those pixel art in order to practice both, posing keyframes for animation and the pixel coloring technique itself. Those game art are almost ready to use. It would need just a few inbetween frames so that the animation won´t jump.

Don´t forget to click on the image to see them in their real size!

Soldier in danger

A soldier in a dangerous situation... He is lost. Probably in pain! I like this illustration, man... Oh yes i do!

Characther Design - Special Forces Police Soldier

This soldier was created to be a first person shooter game character for an indy developer. Unfortunately the game is no longer in development... It´s a pitty, cause he would have been a fine character, hehe...

Digital colors - Barbarian Warjack

The beautifull design and line work for this image belongs to Kenzo Abeki. I did the coloring. All textures are hand painted in photoshop. No photos used.

Character Concept Design - Hoogan the badass orc - Colors

Here is a color version of Hoogan, the badass orc. You can read more about him in the previous post.

Character Concept Design - Hoogan the badass orc Lineart

I had to create a concept and a model sheet for a low polly model for use in games. It was created for portfolio purposes to both, me and the modeller.

Above you have the Lineart, already inked. And above some details and the model sheet.

Character design - The Hunchback

This concept design started as loose sketch, and i decided to take him further. I finished it with Ink and then used watercolor.

A tribute to Sergio Leone

This is a tribute to one of the greater movie directors of all time: Sergio Leone.

Traditional gouche painting on paper.

Homeless

The goal on this illustration was to represent two homeless guys in a cold day. I didnt want them to be dying and all. Instead i went for a most expected moment for them; The meal!

I used some photo reference for this one, using more than one image and composing it on some concept sketches before the painting. The process was very fast and the image was finished in a few hours of hard work.

The Curupira

The Curupira is a fantastic folklore entity from the Brazilian indians. He has been described since the XVI century as the protector of the animals, and his feet are the opposite of the normal human being, so that his heel are turned to the front side of the body. His footprints mistakes the hunters, making they believe he is coming when he is going away and vice-versa. He allows hunting for eating, but he may kill or injury those that hunts for pleasure.

This image was made for a personal project, where i expect to illustrate many brazilian folklore character. Since there are many and i´ve been really busy, i don´t even know if i´ll be able to do this someday...

This illustration won the 2D second place in the CG illustration contest held at CGArt.com.br, and the maximum prize of "Distinct Image" for both categories, 2D and 3D.

The Saci Pererê

The Saci-Pererê is a mytical character from Brazil´s folklore. It´s a one legged naked black fella that smokes a pipe and makes litle tricks, like changing the position of things, or scaring people.

Digital painting in photoshop.

Soldiers come home

This concept art was done for an indy wargame that never came out. It was supposed to establish the mood for the cinematic intro. I really love this image. It´s a traditional painting, and i made it very quickly.

Spring Landscape

The briefing for this one was really simple. I was supposed to create a landscape view of an imaginary village in spring time. Done in photoshop from sketch to the finished image.

Isometric view of a production line

In this illustration the client wanted me to show how his production line would work. I decided for an isometric view, like the ones we see in game art, but since it was going to be printed i didn´t go for a pixel art image, but a 2D digital painting instead.

Never bet your head

This illustration was made for another Edgar Allan Poe tale called "Never bet your head".

Watercolor and ink

The Black Cat

I made this image to illustrate an Edgar Allan Poe short tale called "The black cat". It´s such an interesting story that later on i decided to create a storyboard for a short animated film based on it. By that time i totally changed the overall feeling of the movie with diferent concept art, but i still love this one.
